Services - Airfield Commissioning

Once a new or refurbished runway has been completed, it is important to confirm the correct installation and alignment of the AGL system. However, undertaking a detailed survey of AGL system performance at its installation is impractical with traditional measurement techniques.

Using MALMS, TMS Photometrics is increasingly being requested, as an independent third party, to assess beam intensity and orientation of new AGL installations, as part of the commissioning process for new runway build or refurbishment projects.   This is ideally undertaken as quickly as possible after installation to avoid any degrading of performance resulting from the operation of the runway or AGL system.

The testing can confirm that the systems are fully compliant to the required standard at the time of commissioning, or - as is more typical - ensure that identified problems are rectified prior to acceptance . In one instance, commissioning tests undertaken on a new installation in the USA, identified an installation problem that reduced intensity but could not be identified by other means.   This commissioning service can be an independent contract or implemented as part of the supply of a MALMS Mobile measurement system.
