TMS Photometrics has extensive experience in the testing and maintenance of AGL systems, and has developed a range of services, training and consultancy activities that can either help airports significantly improve the performance of existing AGL systems and cut maintenance costs, or ensure that systems are installed correctly, so reducing both build and ongoing maintenance costs.
The primary maintenance service for airports with existing AGL systems is the Performance Audit. This regular, full system audit, undertaken by TMS staff employing the MALMS Mobile technology, can significantly reduce the risk of an installation failing to meet the required performance standards, and provide the basis for more cost effective maintenance. To further optimise the maintenance programmes for specific AGL systems, TMS has also developed the MALMS Differential Maintenance strategy, and can provide specially developed Maintenance Optimisation Training. This proven training can help airports develop maintenance practices that ensure acceptable AGL performance is achieved at minimum cost. For those airports that purchase a MALMS system, TMS can also offer Additional Operator and Supervisor Training.
When building a new runway, or refurbishing an existing one, a key objective for any airport should be to install an AGL system that can achieve the required performance standard at the time of commissioning. By selecting compliant components and adopting the correct design and installation processes this is possible. However, too often the components and / or installation are out of specification, and so not only is it very hard to achieve this standard at commissioning, but it then becomes difficult and expensive to even maintain the system. Using its experience, TMS can also offer a range of installation services designed to reduce the risk of a new or re-furbished AGL installation failing to meet the required performance standards. These include Airfield AGL Installation Support, during which TMS can provide on-site advice, training and support to identify potential problem areas or more effective new practices. Also, quick and efficient AGL Equipment Testing, prior to installation, can, as proven at one major UK airport, help ensure initial system performance, and allows for the easy return of failed fittings to the manufacturer for appropriate rectification. Finally, TMS offers formal, independent, Airfield Commissioning tests to confirm the correct installation and alignment of the AGL system.
Overall, with new AGL systems often having a range of 'faults', and with rectification work often expensive, TMS Photometrics' support services for new or re-furbished AGL system can prove extremely cost effective.
